He came to Elgin, Kane Co, IL in 1835 by covered wagon along with the Tefft and Gilbert families. These families were very close and had alot to do with the settlement of Kane Co. Dr. Tefft was taking over the practice of the first dr in Elgin and Dr. Collins was the first dr in St. Charles in 1836. Dr. Collins Sr built a log cabin on the west side of the river but later moved to St. Charles in 1836, and Dr. Tefft built a log cabin on the east side of the river. Dr Collins Sr died a few months before the birth of his son, Nathan P Collins Jr. in 1841 in St. Charles, IL. Nathan Jr. also practiced medicine in Elgin,IL. Nathan Jr's mother died when he was about 12 years old and lived with PC Gilbert and family I have alot more on the Collins line to add. This line goes back to Henry Collins the Starchmaker!
